The Choir was founded in1986 by professors E.Kabakova and V. Kalinin.
For more than 25 years of its activity the choir has been giving a numerous of concerts in Russia and abroad, establishing supreme standards of performance, regardless of styles and genres of music, singing doth a’ cappella or to the accompaniment of an orchestra. Its wide repertoire includes music from Renaissance to the music of modern composers (as well as folk music).
Among the highlights of the choir’s classic repertoire are the masterpieses of Rachmaninov, Taneev, Bortnyancky, Astafiev, Sviridov, Palestrina, Kykta or Anerio.
At the center of the choir’s attention always are contemporary Russian composers R. Ledenev, V. Kalistratov, V. Khodosh, A. Larin and many others.
The most important stages in forming the choir’s style were joint appearances with state symphony orchestra (director Y.Svetlanov) in 1986 while performing and recording Mahler’s symphonies №1 and №2 and Skryabin’s “Prometheus”, performance of Haydn’s “Nelson-messe” and Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms” with American mixed “Cincinnati” Choir, the work on Shuman’s oratorio with Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra directed by V.Fedoseev together with Yourlov’s State Chorus Capella.
In 1994 the Choir got I and II prizes in Ventspils-94 (Latvia) chorus contest and its conductor (prof. V. Kalinin) was honored with the prize “The best conductor of the event”.
In 1995 –I prize in Moldova –the winner of the international contest among choirs of educational institutions.
In 1997 – I prize in Germany – The international Chorus Contest “Gissen-97”.
The choir took part in “Orthodox voices of Russia” tours in Germany (2004), Moldova (2005), Poland (2006), France (2007), Serbia (2008), Italy (2009), Latvia (2010).
The choir also participates in the annual award presentation ceremony of The International Foundation for Orthodox Nations Unity.
One of the major events of 2010 was the performance of “Amao Omi” for mixed choir and sax-quartet by famous Georgian composer G. Kanchelli.
In spring 2011 the choir gave two big Jubilee performances (25th Anniversary) in The Gnessin Hall and in The Rachmaninov Hall of The State Moscow Conservatory.
In May 2011 the choir hosted an artistic meeting with mixed choir “Merser Singer” ( USA, Merser University, Atlanta) including a joint masterclasses of two conductors and a concert of the two choirs which has a great success.
In December 2011 the choir in common with Yourlov’s State Chorus Capella took part in the first night performance of Vangelis’s “Imnos Oron” in Doha (conductor I.Kassar) organized by world-wide famous “Universal” company.
In 2012 was invited to participate in The VIIIth annual International Autumn Chorus festival commemorating prof. B. Tevlin.
In 2013 the choir first appeared in the cultural program of “Museum Night” in Moscow.
A number of educational programs were recorded by the choir in co-operation with state and satellite TV channels.
